FAQ

Common questions about FRM repair.

My FRM is completely dead — can it be saved?

In the majority of cases, yes. Most FRM failures are caused by corrupted EEPROM or flash data rather than physical hardware damage. We perform a direct chip-level read and restore the correct data. Units with burnt ICs or severe water ingress cannot always be recovered — contact us with details before sending if you are unsure.

Will the repaired FRM lose my vehicle's individual coding?

No. We restore the data that was already on your specific module — we do not reflash with generic software. The repaired FRM retains all your vehicle-specific adaptations and returns ready to refit without any additional coding.

How long does the FRM repair take?

Most repairs are completed the same day the module arrives and dispatched on the afternoon courier. In all cases we aim to have it back within 24-48 hours of receipt — tracked return shipping included as standard.

Do I need to remove the FRM before posting it?

Yes — the module must be removed from the vehicle before posting. The FRM is typically located in the driver's footwell behind a plastic trim panel and is removed with a flat-blade trim tool and two connectors. Call us if you need guidance on removal; it is usually a 10-minute job.

How to send

Three steps from your bench to ours.

1

Order

Select the FRM repair service for your vehicle (FRM1, FRM2, or FRM3), complete the form with the BMW VIN and pay via PayPal — or request a trade invoice.

2

Pack & post

Place the removed FRM in an anti-static bag, wrap in bubble wrap, and use a sturdy box. Royal Mail Special Delivery or DPD tracked. Include your order reference inside.

3

Back on the courier

Repaired and returned the same day it arrives — or next morning at the latest. Refit the module and the vehicle should boot normally with all original coding intact.

Not sure if your FRM can be saved?

Call us before you post.

If the module shows no signs of life, has visible burn marks, or you are unsure which generation FRM you have — call us first. We would rather you describe the symptoms than post an unrepairable unit.
